My right side rear turn signal and brake light haven’t been working. I changed the bulbs, I changed the flasher relay since the front signal also stopped flashing, I checked the sockets and I was definitely getting power at them. I took the housing out and my mechanic gave it power with a power supply, and it worked. Our best guess was a bad ground. I cut my ground wire, grounded it somewhere else, no luck.
Then I came across a thread I missed on the Montero Facebook group that mentioned the hazard switch is known to cause turn signal and brake light issues. I drowned it in contact cleaner, and voila, I have all my turn signals and brake lights again.
My reattached ground wire that I didn’t need to cut in the first place. My significant other did most of this since she has steady hands, mine are no good for finicky little stuff like this
The offending switch
I really wish I’d tried the hazard switch sooner, but it just didn’t occur to me at all. Oh well. It all works now.

Yeah I’ve got wobbly wobbly hands too. Sucks because fin icky little details always elude me.

Electrical gremlins are my biggest nightmare, but a as a friend and co- worker once told me many years ago, “It’s usually a bad ground”. I hate when he’s right. :)

Finally had the first truly wacky gremlin in my Jaguar. Tl:dr I figured out the trunk light was stuck on. Even disconnecting the switch it remained on. Until I noticed the mounting screws for the fixture were loose. As soon as I touched it, the light went out and the switch works correctly. Pulled it out, no chafed wires, still working correctly; put it back in. Still ok so…

Hurray for mechanical men ding! Shame you yanked the ground out before realizing it wasn’t. the ground, but better late than never I suppose.
